British Marine Plc and the UK Merchant Fleet
As part of its strategy of expansion, British Marine is very much focused on some of the new opportunities now available to British owners and operators, which are the result of recent legislative changes designed to promote and revive the UK Shipping industry. British Marine is particularly proud of its contribution to the impressive revival of the British merchant fleet that has taken place over the last few years, in which British Marine has emerged as a British ship-owner with the one of the largest and most modern fleets in the UK register (see List of UK Flag Ships).
As a matter of policy, the owning companies within the British Marine group all operate their ships under UK tonnage tax rules, and have most of their ships flagged with the British registry. British Marine also has a programme for training British cadets, who are give the opportunity to serve their apprenticeship at sea on British Marine ships.
British Marine has also adapted to the more stable and favourable fiscal regime for UK shipping by successfully completing a number of leasing deals with first class banks. (see Press)
